Last Tuesday we did something never done before in the United States. We performed remote CPT and seismic testing controlled over the internet. Controlled by Nico Koster and Bauke Regnerus of AP van den Berg in Heerenveen, the Netherlands to be exact. Although this was in the course of "routine" trouble-shooting of the equipment, the implications are wide-ranging. This is truly the future of site investigation.

For example, have you ever wished you didn't have to have a field engineer to pick the specific depth of a dissipation test, or to stop it if it has gone on long enough, or doesn't tell you what you need? Previously, you would have to trust in the experience of the operator, but if you could be watching the data display, in real time, you could be on the phone and say, "Stop! Do a test here!". Vane shear testing? Same thing. Shallow refusal? You can take a look at the test and make your own determination whether to redrill or if the data is sufficient. By simply logging in over the internet you can look at our testing in real time, allowing you to make decisions on the development of the investigation without the expense of a field engineer.

Granted, we would need 3G cell coverage, but we are finding very few areas where that is not available, especially with cell boosters.

The future really is here now. And we were the first!
