Using our cone penetration testing (CPT) services saves time and money on site investigations.

CPT is faster, more accurate, and more economical than conventional drilling and SPT sampling for nearly all soil conditions.

With our rigs we can typically advance between 500 and 800 feet of sounding per day, several times the footage possible with conventional drilling.  The data can be processed can immediately  at the completion of each sounding, creating a remarkable turnaround time on reporting. The time savings with CPT over conventional drilling allows you to save money on onsite oversight costs, facilitates compressed construction scheduling and reduces the delays imposed by protacted field investigation turnaround times. Due to our increased productivity, our unit cost rates are nearly half that of conventional drilling techniques. Setup costs and mobilization fees are also lower due to the reduced field staffing and time required for CPT operations.

On top of direct cost and time savings, total project savings can be realized through the improved accuracy of the data over conventional techniques.  For soft soils, CPTU is the only valid investigative technique (see reference page for documentation). The increased analysis possible with combined CPTU and seismic shear wavve data enables the engineer to design foundations with more reasonable safety factors. This can save significant money on foundation construction costs, and in some instances make marginally buildable sites economical.

Better, more accurate, repeatable data allows a higher degree of confidence in the design, and is greater assurance against claims of failure. If you have available a proven, superior investigative tool, how can you justify not using it?

Conventional drilling and sampling is still useful and practical on some sites and for some foundation design, and as a compliment to CPT but for more rigorous design needs, or for larger site investigations where the cost advantages come into play, CPTU and SCPTU drilling are the most logical and most economical choice.
